Shots, Shots & Shots!

Shots, Shots & Shots!

Now, I’m not sure what first came to mind when you read the title, but if you know me and you know I like to drink, then it is fair to say you might be thinking this post will be about alcohol.  Well, surprise surprise… I am talking about actual shots from the doctor and not about alcohol (for once).  Fooled yah!

Before my nephew was born, my sister said we had to get the whopping cough shot and flu shot.  Otherwise, we couldn’t see the baby.  So mean yeah.  At first I thought she was just being a crazy lady since non of my other friends who had babies or their sisters who had babies ever mentioned this.  But in truth, with newborns you need to take all safety precautions so it makes perfect sense.  I guess she is not such a crazy lady after all.

I never ever get the flu shot, even though you’re supposed to every flu season.  I heard many people get sick after receiving the shot, so my brilliant brain tells me, why would I do that?  I never get sick in the first place and if I take this shot, I’m going to get sick.  Therefore, I always stay away from it.. that and I don’t like needles.  But, an aunty has to do what an aunty has to do to see her nephew.  I went and got the two shots. Surprisingly, my arms did not hurt as many people say it will.  Matt’s arms however were sore!  He claims I punched him because maybe that is easier to accept than being beaten up by shots hehe!

Not surprisingly though, I did end up getting sick.  It was the worse timing possible because one – I couldn’t see my nephew as much as I wanted to before we left for Europe, two – as we were leaving soon, I had so much to complete at work.. I couldn’t afford to be sick and three – who wants to be sick when they’re on vacation!  Luckily, I kind of kicked it right before we left for our 3 week European adventure (posts to come about this later).  Unfortunately, it did come back with a vengeance right after I returned.  Again, the worst timing possible because one – I couldn’t see my nephew and give him the gifts we brought back, two – I had so much work to catch up on it was impossible to call in sick and three – it was right before thanksgiving and I needed to have my pumpkin pie fixings without being stuffy.

As I said before, I never get sick.  I know you don’t believe me, but seriously .. I never do!  It was so bad and I knew I needed to get well asap so I actually went to the doctor.  *gasp*  This is a big deal for me because I pretty much am my own doctor.  Call me Dr. Kathy, will you.  So I went to the doctor – waited, saw the doctor and walked out as angry hulk.  Basically he  told me what I already knew… “you are sick so just take over the counter medication”.  Obviously doctor I am sick, which is why I came here in the first place.  Obviously doctor, I am taking over the counter medication and it is not working!  All of that for nothing!  Nothing!  And I still had to pay!  I’m shaking my head as I write this because it makes me so angry!

In conclusion – this whole post was to proclaim my thoughts that …

1.  Don’t get the flu shot

2.  Don’t go to the doctors – the best remedy is to heal yourself – said by Dr. Kathy
