My mom and dad just celebrated their 40th anniversary!  40 years of marriage!  That is 14,600 days.  Is that not amazing? Statistics show 40-50% of marriages in the United States end in divorce.  To have a love and marriage that can last that long is truly spectacular and I hope to walk the same path as them.

Many people may ask what is their secret?  The answer has yet to be disclosed.  Even I wonder the same thing and until they reveal all their secrets to me, I shall be content to think the reason they have a good marriage is because they have 2 wonderful daughters – my sister and me!  Hahaha.

Crazy daughters!

Crazy daughters!

Seriously though, my sister and I are so  grateful for all that our parents have done and continue to do for us that we needed to give something back to them.  They never go on any trips so to make this 40th anniversary truly memorable, we are sending them on an Alaskan Cruise, which is kind of ironic because Dad hates the water.  It’s a big boat though so he’ll be fine (I hope!).  He has ginger candy to cure his seasickness.  We hope they will enjoy themselves to the fullest.  We even got them a new camera so they better document their trip; hopefully I’ll be able to share some photos here after they return!

40 years is a great feat and cheers to many more happy years as Mr and Mrs O!  My parents are the best (and my in-laws are not far behind either – they just celebrated their 35th anniversary!).  Matt and I have a lot to live up to, but I have no doubt we can do it too!
