Every year on President’s day, The Great Aloha Run (GAR) is held.  It is an 8 mile jog from downtown to Aloha Stadium.  This year they celebrated their 30th year!  I figured, hey you’re 30, I just turned 30 and Matty will turn 30 this year too … we might as well participate!

He and I ran this race once many years ago!  It was a group effort with other HECO friends!

Wait a minute, shouldn't it be the other way around! Him carrying me!

That was many years ago and now we have turned into running fanatics!  Not really, but as you know we signed up for the 2014 Honolulu Marathon.  I figured if we are doing this, we might as well tackle the 8 mile Great Aloha Run as well.  Oddly, Matt wouldn’t mind doing a 26.2 mile race, but he put up a fuss about doing the GAR!  All I did was shake my head and sign him up anyways haha!

If you read my previous post, you may know that the week leading up to the race was doodoo.  Literally doodoo (see previous post: Rumble in the Tum Tum)!  Basically, I jogged exactly one week before the race to try to “prepare” myself.  However, I think I’m allergic to jogging because right after that I did not feel well at all.  The next day I had a fever and then was cursed with runny doots up until the night before the race!  How horrible!

But rain or shine, runny doots or not, the show must go on!  And on it went.

Matt and I completed the race in 1 hour 47 minutes AND he crossed the finished line a second before me.  What happened to being a gentleman?  It’s okay I guess since he bought me my reward after: A WENDY’S FROSTY!  Nom!

Yummy Frosty to cool down after an 8 mile race!

Hooray to our very first Mr. & Mrs. race!!!

Need less to say, we were definitely not ready for this race.  His knees hurt.  My stomach still hurt.  We had to stop and go many a times, but it was the first step in physically and mentally preparing ourselves for the killer Honolulu Marathon in December 2014.  That is our next goal and I can’t wait for us to accomplish it together.

Run Team Mathy, Run!
