Is that title hard to read?  It says, “kathy’s growing a green thumb.”  I made myself a hash tag, #kathysgrowingagreenthumb haha!  Search for it on Twitter and you can stay up-to-date on my gardening adventures!

I’ve always wanted to be able to grow my own produce since it’s so expensive in the store.  The idea of being self-sustaining seems so empowering and that is my goal!  However, I do not have the best luck growing things.  My tomato plant only produced one large tomato compared to my sisters, who made many handfuls of tomatoes.  Everything I try to grow unfortunately dies.  My best friend gave me an orchid plant since she said those are hard to kill and they normally live for 3 months.  Actually orchid plants can live forever; just ask my grandpa.  Mine though, lived the 3 months and then went kaput.

Maybe I’m not giving the plants enough love and attention; perhaps on occasion I do forget to water them and maybe I’m just not meant to have a green thumb?  Despite all these set backs and no matter how many plants have died on me, I will never give up!  Since we moved into our new house (yay, we’re homeowners!), I started up a garden.  Surprisingly, this is the best I have ever done, so I have hope that slowly but surely, I’m getting better at growing things!

Check out the radishes and green beans growing in my magic box, which was a gift from my sister .  It’s kind of a funny story because I planted the seeds and waited the number of days until germination per the seed packet and nothing happened.  Days passed and I was getting so mad that nothing was growing.  I complained to my sister and she said maybe I need to talk to them more.  So I went home that day ready to talk stories with my plants and by golly, when I went to check on them, there it was….. a little green sprout!!!!  We reached the germination phase, HALLELUJAH!

Now, they are flourishing and I even harvested some on Easter Sunday!

I also have marigolds growing; they often wilt when I forget to water them, but come right back to life with a little bit of water!  I just need to get into the routine and before you know it, I’ll be producing all kinds of produce from my garden!  I can’t wait!

The former owner of the house apparently had a green thumb as well and he left behind beautiful Gerber Daisies!  They make me smile every time I see them reaching towards the sun!
